Bear with me as I publicly announce my new found appreciation for podcasts.  That’s right. My lengthy commute to work has converted me into a podcast connoisseur! I genuinely enjoy listening to what most people believe to be boring lectures hosted by retired professors or eery stories about crime given by ex-FBI agents. But, the times are a-changin (thank you Bob Dylan)! There are podcasts that appeal to any and all of your interests. Podcasting has become the new blogging.  Have a long commute or a cross country flight? Podcast. Going for a run or brisk walk? Podcast. Seriously, try it. You may end up enjoying it and learning something along the way! I’ve gathered and summarized a few of my go-to podcasts that you must try, focused on health, wellness, and nutrition. So let’s cut to the chase, shall we?

    1. Dishing up NutritionHosted by licensed nutritionists, dietitians and educators from Nutritional Weight & Wellness Center located in Minnesota. Beginning in 2012, Darlene Kvist and her team have been providing research based nutrition advice on a weekly basis. Topics include the latest research on gluten, sweeteners, and supplements to name a few. Dishing up Nutrition  is sure to please all of your clients and professionals.
    2. Nutrition Diva: Quick and Dirty Tips for Eating Well and Feeling Fabulous You may not have a road trip ahead of you, but you can most definitely get bursts of sound nutrition information in less than TEN MINUTES with this podcast. Its host, Monica Reinagel, is a licensed nutritionist out of New York with a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition. Having started her podcast in 2008, she has managed to provide simple and practical ways to improve your eating habits. The short episodes make this podcast an ideal choice for the busy professional or the person with short attention spans (me after a full day of work!) Additionally, Monica is a frequent contributor to the Food and Nutrition Magazine published by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, so keep a lookout my RD friends!
    3. Kimberly Snyder’s Podcast: Realize Yourself As a certified nutritionist, Kimberly covers all areas of wellness from beauty to yoga to nutrition all the way to spirituality and fitness. Kimberly is known to have worked alongside a few of our Hollywood favorites including Channing Tatum (well that explains A LOT) and Reese Witherspoon.
    4. TED Talks HealthMy love for TED talks began back in college and has continued through my adulthood. The inspirational and motivational discussions and stories are just what you’ll need to muscle through classes and life’s roller coasters. So listeners, why not motivate yourself and  improve your health through this podcast? The broad playlist covers topics such as laughter, diet, medical breakthroughs, and many more ideas worth spreading!
    5. Nutrition Talks by the American Society of Nutrition As a publisher of three well known academic journals (The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, The Journal of Nutrition and Advances in Nutrition), the American Society of Nutrition discusses the most up-to-date information on research and clinical breakthroughs. It covers topics including chronic diseases, heart disease, nutrient profiling as well as diet and weight loss.  Although episodes are not posted consistently, this podcast is a good host for important information. I suggest starting with the episode titled, “Sugar-Sweetened Beverages.”
