Heather Hampton Knodle

Heather is a farmer from Fillmore, IL. She and her husband, Brian, grow corn, soybeans and wheat and raise a small herd of Black Angus cattle. They have four children who are very active in helping on the farm.

Learning objectives 

1)        Gain an understanding of what growing local food means from an Illinois farmer’s perspective and how farming methods impact our food from farm to grocery store shelf
2)        Illustrate how marketing and labels can add to consumers’ confusion about food and what label claims mean at the farm level
3)        Discover the role farmers can play as a resource for dietitians and consumers in conversations about food
