Nutrition Field Expected to Grow Rapidly…

A dietitian friend posted this article recently which caught my attention because of its prodigious title:  “Need a Job? Check out the Nutrition Field”.

This Fox Business article discusses the obvious:  the growing number of chronic diseases that require diet and lifestyle changes, nutrition recommendations which are constantly changing and confusing to consumers, nutrition is now a regular part of the healthcare team and we offer more services than people realize.   But it also has some interesting points such as a statistic that shows 52% of Americans would feel more comfortable doing their own taxes than knowing how to eat healthy.  That’s where we come in; per the article “separating food commercialism from healthy eating”.

This article predicts that the nutrition field will be booming in the next 8+ years growing an estimated 20% faster than average for other occupations.  The author encourages young students to consider this field of healthcare.  My favorite part of the article states:  “it’s not easy to achieve a degree as a registered dietitian”.  Definitely not.  As our profession continues to grow and we continue to be recognized as the nutrition experts, it is critical for all of us to continue advocating for our profession.  We can all help by being active in legislation and taking every opportunity to provide information to family, friends, and colleagues about the many services we provide and the positive outcomes our interventions can provide the American public.
