Meet the Bloggers

Kate Egan is a dietetic intern and MBA student at Dominican University in River Forest, IL. She graduated with a BS in Dietetics and a minor in Child and Family Studies from University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 2015. She is currently working part-time for a nutrition-based startup company in downtown Chicago as a content specialist. Teresa Frankel a Registered Dietitian in the Chicagoland area who recently finished her dietetic internship at Ohio State University and graduated Iowa State University in 2016.  She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and minored in Psychology. She believes that mental health is just as important as what we eat and is a promoter of intuitive eating. She wrote monthly nutrition newsletters for families in the Ames area and started her own blog last October.  Teresa enjoys traveling, fitness, good humor and anything with peanut butter. Amanda Hookom is a dietetic intern at Loyola University-Chicago, studying to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. She has a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and minors in Public Health and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies.  In 2015, she obtained her Certified Personal Trainer credentials from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Amanda contributes her experience as a dietetic intern on her website to help current nutrition students get an idea of what it’s like to be a DI. Her other interests include cooking, being active, skijoring (cross-country skiing with a dog), and doing pretty much anything in the great outdoors. Amanda Izquierdo is a Registered Dietitian at FleishmanHillard, a public relations agency, where she works with food brands on strategic nutrition communications. She graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Cognitive Science and Spanish before changing her career focus to dietetics. She holds a Master of Public Health in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Michigan and completed a dietetic internship at Edward Hines, Jr, VA Hospital. She loves that as a dietitian she is surrounded by the power of good food every day – she even named her rescue cat Albóndiga, which means “meatball” in Spanish. Sarah Kim is a freelance Registered Dietitian based out of Chicago. She primarily works on projects that involve recipe development and nutrition communications. She grew up in Denver and uprooted herself to the Midwest with the intent of starting a career in medicine. While at Case Western Reserve University, she quickly realized she wanted to integrate her love of food into her future career. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Nutrition and Medical Anthropology. After graduating, she moved to Chicago to complete her dietetic internship and Master of Science in Dietetics at Loyola University Chicago. Sarah had no idea her academic career would end up in a creative career, but she absolutely loves what she does today. In her spare time, she works on her personal blog, Hey, Have You Eaten?, spends time outside with her dog, and hosts dinner parties.

Patrick (Pat) Mylett is a current graduate student of the combined Dietetic Internship/MBA program at Dominican University.  He also holds a Bachelor degree in Food and Nutrition Sciences concentrating in Applied Dietetics from Ohio University. Pat has been a CAND member since Fall 2016. His main interests include corporate health and wellness, diabetes prevention and education, and community-based nutrition education and prevention.  When not working, Pat enjoys throwing together new recipes in the kitchen, traveling, biking along the Chicago lakefront when weather permits, and swimming. Michelle Phan is an MBA/RDN candidate studying at Dominican University in River Forest, IL. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics with a minor in Psychology from Indiana University – Bloomington. She also holds an Associate in Applied Science in Baking and Pastry Arts from Ivy Tech Corporate College – Indianapolis. She serves as the Blog Lead for CAND. She is currently working as a Content Specialist for a nutrition start-up company.
