#PeanutButterLovers Month

November is a great month for peanut butter lovers. Recognized nationally as #PeanutButterLovers Month, let’s #SpreadLove and talk about all of the reasons to absolutely love peanut butter! The nutty concoction dates back prehistorically as mashing up peanuts into paste has long been loved by many. However, in 1985, the creator of Kellogg’s cereal, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg was able to patent the peanut butter making process.

Peanut butter is a holy grail sandwich ingredient. In fact, youth, who are the largest consumers of peanut butter jelly sandwiches, will have consumed an average of 1,500 of these sandwiches by their senior year of high school. The average American eats about three pounds of peanut butter annually. A staple as common as milk or bread, peanut butter constitutes an important pantry item that not only satisfies, but nourishes.

Peanut butter is a good source of protein, potassium, and heart-healthy monounsaturated fat. Many athletes advocate for it as the perfect pre-workout snack to combine with whole grain bread, bananas, or apples for lasting energy. Its protein content makes it an optimal post-workout snack as well. Peanut butter is great for fueling exercise and restoring muscle tissue.

To celebrate the love of peanut butter, you can indulge in a spoonful straight from the jar, or try your hand at a delicious Food and Nutrition Magazine recipe like African Peanut Soup, Caramel Dipped Pumpkin Spice Pops, Nutty Chocolate CousCous Breakfast Bars.
